Updated July 2016
Zurich Life have made some changes to their life insurance, mortgage protection and serious illness policies..if you ask me they now offer the best life cover in the land.
What’s so good?
They’ve made the biggest step forward with serious illness cover by simplifying their Heart Attack and Stroke definitions.
Now the vast majority of people diagnosed by their consultant with either of these conditions will be able to claim.
The other insurers have a much stricter definition of what will satisfy a stroke or heart attack claim.
If you have serious illness on your policy and would like to compare the definition on your policy with this new definition, let me know.
They’ve also added extra illnesses (both full and partial) to Serious Illness Cover, and enhanced many existing illnesses.
Edited August 2015 – Royal London have matched Zurich’s offering here.
They’ve added “waiver of premium” benefit for free. If you are disabled for a period longer than 13 weeks, you won’t have to pay premiums but your cover will remain in place.
It avoids the awful situation where the children may lose their home when a parent dies with no mortgage protection after becoming unable to keep up with payments due to disability.
This benefit costs up to 5% at other insurers. It’s free at Zurich.
Edited August 2015 – Still the only insurer offering this
Zurich offer a Long Term Care Conversion option.
What’s that I hear you ask?
Well, to explain it as simply as possible:
They are the only insurer that allow you to convert some of your life insurance to a monthly income if you become disabled in your later years.
In practice Zurich Life will convert up to €150,000 of your life insurance lump sum into 50 monthly payments to you of €3,000
Edited August 2015 – Still the only insurer offering this
Zurich are the only insurer to insert a “reinstatement clause” into every policy.
This is a very important benefit that has helped some of our customers keep their cover when they had forgotten to pay their premiums due to the shock of a sudden illness.
If you miss a payment, Zurich gives you 3 months to pay your outstanding premiums and put your policy back in place even if you have suffered a critical illness in those three months.
Other companies would cancel your policy.
Edited August 2015 – Still the only insurer offering this
At the moment, Zurich Life are offering 15% of their life insurance premiums making it a good time to buy.
