Hi, I’m Nick McGowan, founder of Lion.ie, a boutique life insurance brokerage based in Tullamore, Co. Offaly.
I’ve worked in Irish financial services since 2005, following several years in London as an Equity Derivatives Broker. I hold a Law Degree (BCL) from UCD and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) from Smurfit Business School — training that’s proved invaluable when navigating the legal and financial fine print of life insurance and protection.
Over the past two decades I’ve specialised in helping people secure cover when life isn’t straightforward — health issues, complex occupations, or underwriting headaches. My background on both the broking and underwriting sides means I understand how insurers think, which helps clients get the best possible outcome.
Life insurance is serious, but it doesn’t have to be boring. I write every article on Lion.ie myself, explaining complex financial and underwriting topics in plain English with a touch of Irish humour. No jargon, no pushy sales talk — just honest, transparent advice.
