10-second summary: You can usually get life insurance with Addison’s disease once it’s stable. Most cases are accepted at standard rates or a small loading. The key is applying to the right insurer first.
Editor’s Note: First published May 2022 | Fully refreshed April 2026to reflect updated underwriting practices and Addison’s-specific insurer insights.
We’ve helped clients with Addison’s Disease get life insurance, mortgage protection, and income protection.
Things are only complicated if you apply shortly after diagnosis. Insurers usually want to see around six months of stability before offering cover.

Where people get caught out is assuming all insurers see Addison’s the same way.
They don’t.
One insurer might offer standard rates. Another might apply a loading. Another might delay the application entirely.
If you apply to the wrong insurer first and get postponed or declined, that decision can follow you and narrow your options.
That’s why the order you apply in matters.
👉 Complete this short questionnaire and I’ll check your case with each insurer before anything is submitted.
If your Addison’s is well controlled and diagnosed more than six months ago:
If you’ve had a recent Addisonian crisis, insurers will look more closely, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get cover.

Most applications are completed using the standard form.
Sometimes an insurer may request a PMAR (Private Medical Attendant’s Report) from your GP if something isn’t clear.
Nurse medicals or blood tests are rare unless there are unrelated health concerns.
If everything is straightforward, approval can come through within 72 hours of submission.
If a GP report is needed, it can take a few weeks, which is another reason to approach the right insurer first time.

It depends on the detail of your case.
There isn’t one “best” insurer. There’s only the one most likely to offer you the best terms.
That’s why we check with all of them before you apply, rather than finding out the hard way.
